Order the diaper sampler — small, not a stockpile

Fit is unknown until the baby arrives, so buy trial quantities of three: the Coterie Newborn Starter Kit ($110 — a full sampling box: newborn-size diapers, wipes, and skincare minis; coterie.com), a small pack of Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive newborn (fredmeyer.com), and Huggies Little Snugglers newborn (heb.com). Wash and organize the first round of clothing & bedding

Everything that touches the baby gets washed before first use: newborn and 0–3 month organic-cotton pieces (per your standing preference), crib sheets, swaddles, burp cloths. Fragrance-free detergent, then organized by size so the 2am drawer grab is foolproof.

Freezer batches cover the plan (Nov 16 + Nov 23); this is the overflow valve. Two options that deliver to Deerfield, one per week for the first month, ordered or gift-carded in advance so a tired decision never has to be made.

This week's playbook

Call Northbrook directly (action 1). You're not asking for the world — you're asking: do you take new patients with December due dates, what's the intake process, and can we do a prenatal visit? If the answer is yes, get the intake paperwork started and the first-visit timing confirmed (typically 24–48 hours after hospital discharge). If the answer is no or vague, pivot the same day — ask your OB for referrals and call them before the weekend. A pediatrician is a December-9 hard dependency; it cannot be "we'll figure it out after the birth."

What to ask at the prenatal visit (or intake call)

Do your physicians round at Prentice? (If yes, the hospital-to-pediatrician handoff is seamless.)
After-hours coverage — who answers the phone at 2am, and where do you go for urgent issues?
First-visit timing and what to bring (discharge paperwork, feeding log).
Vaccination schedule philosophy — confirm you're aligned.
Patient portal, same-day sick slots, and which office (Ashland vs. Northbrook) handles what once you've moved.

The Northbrook plan

Routine care lives in Northbrook after the move — it's the Deerfield-adjacent office, and it's where you'll be driving for well visits starting spring 2027. Keep Ashland in your contacts as the office that did the prenatal intake, but set your expectation (and the practice's) that Northbrook is home base. When you confirm intake, say so explicitly — practices assign primary offices, and you want the chart in the right one from day one.

Whatever the outcome, the decision is recorded in the baby-documents folder with the practice name, office, phone numbers, portal login, and first-visit instructions. The hospital will ask "who's the pediatrician?" — the answer needs to be one sentence, not a story.
